A Special Time of Year–Holidays on St. George

You may automatically think summer when you think of St. George Island, but the holiday season is a great time for visiting!

The air is cooler in the winter on SGI–we typically experience that perfect “sweater weather” for most of the season–but not so cold that heavy coats and scarves are a necessity. The day time is perfect for hikes and strolls on the beach, and our roomy rentals offer the perfect place to gather the whole family for holiday meals.

Read a book on the porch while taking in the salty air, and spend the evening with family near the fireplace. SGI will make your holiday season unforgettable!

Fireplaces at Amelia and El Dorado.

Best of all, you’ll take advantage of our great low rates!

Spooky Happenings around SGI

Want a relaxing stay at the beach but don’t want to miss out on all the Halloween fun? Never fear! St. George Island and surrounding Franklin County have tons of events to take you from beach day basking to trick-or-treating.

Want to take in some spooky sights with a historic edge? Check out the Chestnut Street Cemetery Ghost Walk.

This event, held  in Apalachicola on October 29, takes visitors for a haunted stroll through the beautiful Chestnut Street Cemetery. Many gravestones predate the Civil War, and with the tours guided by the Apalachicola Historical Society, you are sure to gain a bit of knowledge with your fright.

Interested in a night time event that’s a little less frightening? Visit the Lighthouse Lantern Festival on October 22 in Carrabelle. The two-day event will feature a lantern making workshop and evening lantern display, live theatre, music, dance presentations, storytelling and craft exhibits.

It wouldn’t be Halloween without trick-or-treating, which takes place every year in Franklin County. Ask at the front desk or tune into local radio for details about this year’s trick-or-treat times.

Have a spooky day!

53rd Annual Florida Seafood Festival

One of the best parts about life on the Gulf is enjoying great seafood, and the Florida Seafood Festival is the perfect way to celebrate! This year’s festival takes place November 4th and 5th.

Dubbed Florida’s oldest maritime event, the state’s Seafood Festival draws tens of thousands of visitors every year. Held from Friday to Saturday during the first weekend of November, the festival includes highly competitive oyster eating and oyster shucking competitions, a carnival, a 5K run, fireworks, the blessing of the fleet, a parade, musical entertainment (Kellie Pickler and Craig Campbell have performed in past years), and plenty of delicious food. The festival takes place on the Apalachicola River at Battery Park.

Bring the family and enjoy the beach and all the great seafood Florida has to offer. Give us a call and we’ll help you make the most of a Seafood Festival getaway!

Local Favorites: Fall on SGI

The fall season is a local favorite on SGI. Fall on SGI means cooler temperatures, but the calm waters of the gulf often stay warm well into November.

October is also the time where island visitors can witness the monarch butterfly migration. Thousands of butterflies head south to spend winter in warmer climates, and pass through St. George Island on their way.

Customers visiting the island in the fall enjoy discounted rates, less crowded beaches and all the beauty SGI has to offer. Try fall on SGI–you’ll be hooked!
